Blue Beard

A fictional barber shop site, opened by a 3D intro. A testing ground for metal and glass materials, and for animating a cloth ribbon.

The project

Blue Beard is a brand invented from scratch. No client, no brief: I wanted to see how far I could push a complete identity starting from a name and a trade.

The intro is the centrepiece. A tricolour barber pole topped with a crown, two straight razors crossed behind it, and a cloth ribbon winding around the whole thing carrying the lettering. The ribbon is real geometry, not an image placed in front: it deforms, catches the light, and passes in front of and behind the objects. That kind of detail is the difference between a 3D scene and a backdrop.

I left a clearly visible skip-the-intro button. An animation you can't escape becomes a closed door on the second visit, and nobody returns to a site that costs them ten seconds every time.

Behind the intro, the site goes the whole way: three packages with real prices, a locator for five shops, an advice page, a booking flow. A fictional brand is no excuse for content that doesn't hold up — that's precisely where the exercise gets interesting.

My role

Alone on all of it: name, identity, 3D modelling, intro animation, copy and development.
